- 8 fresh figs (about 1 lb or 450 grams)
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (120 grams)
- 1/4 cup honey (60 ml)
- 1/2 cup walnuts, roughly chopped (60 grams)
- 1 Zest of lemon
- ground cinnamon A pinch
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Rinse the figs and pat them dry. Slice the tops off the figs, then make a cross at the top of each fig, cutting down about halfway through the fruit.
Gently press the sides of each fig to open them slightly. Place the figs in a baking dish lined with parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with lemon zest and a pinch of ground cinnamon until well combined.
Spoon the ricotta mixture into the center of each fig, dividing it evenly among them.
Drizzle honey over the figs and ricotta, ensuring each fig gets an ample coating.
Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the figs, allowing some to fall into the dish for added texture.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the figs are tender and the walnuts are toasted.
Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes.
Garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving.
For a vegan alternative, substitute ricotta with a plant-based cheese and use maple syrup in place of honey.
You can also add a sprinkle of sea salt to enhance the flavors.
If fresh figs are not in season, dried figs can be used; just soak them in warm water for 30 minutes before baking.
This dish can be served warm or at room temperature, making it a versatile option for any occasion.
